A Framework for Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduction Planning that provides guidance to organizations seeking to reduce GHG emissions across their portfolio. The process described in this framework helps organizations develop an actionable plan that identifies solutions, prioritizes measures, and lays out a phased pathway to achieve deep emissions reductions. An overview of this framework can be found here.

DOE Industrial Decarbonization Roadmap identifies four key pathways to reduce industrial emissions through innovation in American manufacturing.

There are three new reports focused on industrial decarbonization in the Pathways to Commercial Liftoff series, with the goal to provide a guide to a private sector-led, industry-wide decarbonization effort.

This report focused on clean hydrogen commercial liftoff, providing detailed demand scenarios regarding clean hydrogen.

These Liftoff Reports create a common fact base and a tool for ongoing dialogue with the private sector on the pathways to commercial liftoff.

Energy Bandwidth Studies analyze energy use and the potential for energy savings in various processes for selected manufacturing sectors.

The 2015 Quadrennial Technology Review (QTR 2015) examines the most promising research, development, demonstration, and deployment (RDD&D) opportunities across energy technologies to effectively address the nation’s energy needs.

These technology assessment reports are available as appendices to the 2015 Quadrennial Technology Review (QTR).

A repository has been developed to consolidate short training videos (5-10 minutes each) on cost and environmental impact analysis topics.

Tools

VERIFI tracks, visualizes, analyzes and forecasts facility utility data in industrial settings. This tool incorporates and expands on several existing DOE tools (EnPI, EnPI Lite, Energy Footprint Tool, Plant Energy Profiler), most of which currently are excel-based or excel-add ons.

MEASUR is a suite that includes a set of key software platforms and more than 70 calculators that was developed over the preceding decades. Altogether, these tools can help manufacturers improve industrial system efficiency and identify potential savings opportunities.

The Energy Footprint Tool can help manufacturing, commercial and institutional facilities to track their energy consumption, factors related to energy use, and significant energy end-use. This is collectively referred to as the facility’s energy footprint.

The Plant Energy Profiler Excel, or PEPEx, is an excel based software tool to help industrial plant managers identify how energy is being purchased and consumed at their plant and identify potential energy and cost savings.

The Carbon Emissions Calculator lets the user determine the carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions for given combustion fuel, biofuel, refrigerant charge, purchased gases, purchased electricity from the grid.

The Decarbonization Action Plan Tool accounts for the carbon emissions from their fuel consumption onsite and purchased energy from other entities. The tool can be used as a resource to develop your customized roadmap.

The Electrification Impacts Calculator can be used to evaluate the change in energy consumption, cost, and carbon emissions by electrification.

PWPEx Tool is a comprehensive tool designed for use by manufacturing plants to understand the procurement, use, and disposal of water in their plants, determine the “true cost” of water, and identify opportunities for reducing water use and achieve associated cost savings.

The Waste Stream Energy Content Calculator estimates the energy recovery potential of waste streams based on annual waste generation. Two main pathways: direct combustion and anaerobic digestion are evaluated, with its GHG impact considering offset energy stream.

The Implementation Guidance Toolkit provides corporate energy managers with the necessary tools to plan projects, track progress, and communicate their accomplishments once their projects have been completed.
